TODAY DAY
https://money.cnn.com/2016/01/14/media/today-show-creation-nbc/ This is a most historic day in television. On this cold East Coast morning at 7 a.m., in 1952, NBC-TV opened a broadcast with a shot of Dave Garroway looking outside through the ‘Window on the World’ in New York City. The program was the first that featured his signature sign-off: hand raised, uttering one word, “Peace.”

Developed by Pat Weaver, father of actress Sigourney Weaver, the Today show was seen live only in the Eastern and Central time zones, broadcasting three hours each morning but seen for only two hours in each time zone. Since 1958 however, it has been delayed for all of the other U.S. time zones. The weekday broadcast expanded to three hours in 2000, and a fourth hour was added in 2007.

More than six decades later, the popular morning show goes on: informing, entertaining and educating while continuing to change with the times.

“This is Today... on NBC.”
