Now: Bob says (7/18), "After managing Oklahoma political
campaigns, I graduated from law school and have represented injured workers in Oklahoma City since
1979. I have written more historical non-fiction books (129) than anyone else in history.
As a college student, at age 17, I was an all-night disc jockey at KOMA in Oklahoma City as Top 40
radio was sweeping the nation. We never thought about security, so the front door was always open.
KOMA covered 29 states in the American West at night, so it was not unusual for bands to stop by
the station in the middle of the night on their way to the next gig. I still have signed albums
from Joe South, Ike and Tina Turner, Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, Kenny Rogers and the First
Edition, Wayne Newton, Smokey Robinson, Jay and the Americans, and many others. When Ike and Tina
wanted to buy a new tape recorder, I bought their old Wollensack reel to reel. It still works and
has an incredibly rich sound. Conway Twitty lived in OKC between his rock and country
careers and sometimes would sit in with me for an hour in the control room after I played his rock
hit, It's Only Make Believe. I was only 17-19 years old at KOMA, but the memories are still
fresh."
