talent living in the Hudson Valley, just North of New York City; I have a well-equipped
home studio, a fat client list, and no intention of retiring as long as the work keeps
coming in; what might you have heard me narrate? Tens of thousands of radio and TV spots
and videos ... but there were two especially memorable jobs: nearly 70 episodes of the
1-hour documentary series on A&E called America's Castles, and the 2-minute produced
opening of NFL Film's coverage of Superbowl XXL. Looking back, I owe it all to Charley Van
Dyke, who 'discovered' me in 1966, performing as a folk singer at the Rubiyatt Coffee House
in Dallas, TX; it wasn't my singing, for sure -- nor my guitar chops -- that attracted his
attention. It was the patter between songs that he noticed. "Who writes your material?",
he asked me. I said, "Nobody... I just wing it." "All that stuff is ad lib?" "Well, yeah.
I don't prepare what I say, I just talk to the audience." "Damn, you oughta be in
radio!" Charley helped me get my 3rd ticket (the FCC license required at the time) and my
first job doing elevator music segues at KIXL; the rest is history."
