WMZQ [Washington DC] 1977-1980

Now: Grady says (1/20), "I've lived in Boston, MA, since 1980. I am Owner and Chief Scientist at LOUD & Clean Broadcast Science. I retired in 2017 from the Director of Engineering position of the WUMB-FM Public Radio Network, where I served for more than 30 years. During this time, I also did audio consulting work for many top-40/ACR stations across the country, and have numerous success stories. I presently own part of the two most-successful hit-music stations in Bermuda, Hott1075 and Magic 102.7. My longest-term client is Q107 in Marquette, MI, where I'm proud to have worked for decades. Presently, I have developed a working AM transmitting antenna that is 1/4 the height of a standard AM tower, needs no guy wires, needs no buried ground system, and fits on a 'single-family-dwelling-plot-of-land'. It was recently featured on the TelosAlliance TWiRT program, and can be viewed at https://youtu.be/TY1TArbqEfI . I also do imaging voice-work for pop-rock stations, and occasional live-sound work for Todd-Rundgren-related events, most recently in Cincinnati on the weekend after Thanksgiving, 2019. At Todd's 70th birthday party in 2018, I was honored to be his "interviewer" for his 70th BD fan Q&A, which I did "radio-style", recording the fan questions _before_ the live event so that I could trim/edit/process the fan questions for best impact, and then played the questions through the sound-system for the hundreds of fans in live-attendance. DAYUM life can be fun! Radio helps keep the grim reaper away from the door!"

To that end, I'm also writing music with a growing catalog and planning on having a demo made in Nashville to pitch these songs down the line. The stage itself doesn't interest me. It's very much about the music and my vision. A hat tip to those curious listeners I had along the way, some who finally tracked me down through 440: Satisfaction. After radio, I worked more TV, was a wind turbine technician, parts manager, parts clerk, biodiesel tech, worked in a large warehouse, then a regional landfill before retiring in 2021. Still, I remain busy and interested in many things. To live a long life, one must do the same. This lesson I learned from my Granny Toie (1908-2009)." Click for more from Mark/Max.
